Medical Billing Specialist | Tulsa, OK

Pay: $17.00 – $18.50 per hour

Schedule: Monday – Friday | 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM

Medical Billing Specialist Job Summary:

We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Medical Billing Specialist to join our team. This position is responsible for insurance claim submission, follow-up, and resolution for commercial, Medicare, Medicaid, and patient accounts.

The ideal candidate will ensure billing practices are prompt, ethical, and compliant with organizational, payer, and governmental regulations while maintaining a high level of accuracy and professionalism.

Medical Billing Specialist Key Responsibilities:

• Submit insurance claims electronically and via paper
• Follow up on unpaid, rejected, or denied claims
• Correct and resubmit claims as needed
• Prepare and submit appeal letters when necessary
• Submit secondary and tertiary claims
• Post insurance and patient payments in billing software
• Generate and monitor aging reports
• Analyze claims to identify trends and discrepancies
• Assess aged accounts and recommend adjustments
• Establish and maintain patient payment plans
• Collect delinquent accounts via phone and mail
• Prepare patient refund requests for approval
• Process pre-authorization requests for specialty services
• Maintain up-to-date procedure manuals
• Assist internal staff with billing questions
• Collaborate with IT and Revenue Cycle Director to resolve EHR billing issues
• Ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and Joint Commission standards
• Maintain strict confidentiality of patient information
• Perform additional duties as assigned

Medical Billing Specialist Qualifications:

• 2–5 years of medical billing and/or outpatient claims experience preferred
• Certificate in Medical Billing/Coding or Associate’s Degree in Health Information Management, Business, or related field preferred
• Credentials such as CCA, CCS, CCS-P, RHIT, RHIA, CPC, COC, and/or CPB preferred
• Proficiency in ICD-10 and CPT coding
• Strong knowledge of Medicare and Medicaid billing protocols
• Experience with insurance claim submission and reimbursement processes
• Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus
