Job Description

Position:  Infusion Nurse Educator

Job Summary:  

The Infusion Nurse Educator is responsible for developing, implementing, and evaluating educational programs for clinical staff to ensure the delivery of safe, effective, and high-quality infusion therapy services. This position serves as a clinical resource, mentor, and educator for nursing staff, supports competency validation, facilitates onboarding and ongoing education, and promotes compliance with company policies, accreditation standards, and regulatory requirements. The Infusion Nurse Educator also serves as the designated backup to the Director of Nursing, providing clinical leadership and operational oversight during the Director's absence to ensure continuity of patient care and nursing operations. 

Qualifications/Educational Requirements:

  • Current unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license.
  • Minimum of three (3) years of infusion nursing experience.
  • Infusion certification (CRNI) preferred
  • Previous experience in staff education, precepting, training, or leadership preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of infusion therapies, vascular access devices, medication administration, and patient education.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, organizational, and leadership skills.
  • Ability to work positively and effectively with patients, families, physicians, and staff.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Clinical Education & Training:

  • Develop, coordinate, and conduct orientation programs for newly hired clinical staff.
  • Provide ongoing clinical education and training related to infusion therapies, medications, disease states, and nursing best practices.
  • Assess and validate nursing competencies through skills checklists, return demonstrations, and direct observation.
  • Serve as a clinical preceptor and mentor for nursing staff.
  • Facilitate annual competency assessments and mandatory education requirements.
  • Develop educational materials, training resources, and competency tools.
  • Coordinate and conduct in-services related to new medications, therapies, equipment, and policies.
  • Maintain accurate records of employee training, competencies, and continuing education activities.

Clinical Quality & Compliance:

  • Monitor adherence to infusion therapy policies, procedures, and clinical protocols.
  • Assist with quality assurance and performance improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in clinical audits and chart reviews to identify educational opportunities.
  • Ensure compliance with state, federal, Medicare, Medicaid, and accreditation requirements.
  • Collaborate with leadership to address clinical performance concerns and develop improvement plans.
  • Assist in updating and maintaining clinical policies and procedures based on current evidence-based practices.
  • Promote patient safety initiatives and risk reduction strategies.

Clinical Support:

  • Serve as a clinical resource for nurses regarding infusion therapy procedures, medication administration, and patient care concerns.
  • Provide hands-on clinical support as needed during staffing shortages, high-volume periods, or complex patient situations.
  • Assist with patient care, infusion administration, and vascular access procedures when necessary.
  • Support investigation and follow-up of adverse events, infusion reactions, and medication variances.
  • Collaborate with physicians, pharmacists, and leadership to improve patient outcomes.

Professional Development:

  • Maintain current knowledge of infusion nursing standards and evidence-based practices.
  • Attend continuing education programs, conferences, and professional development activities.
  • Promote professional growth and certification opportunities among clinical staff.
  • Participate in strategic planning for clinical education and workforce development.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Support implementation of new clinical programs and service lines.
  • Assist with clinical research initiatives as assigned.
  • Participate in leadership meetings and interdisciplinary committees.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Clinical Operations or executive leadership.

Director of Nursing Support:

  • Serve as the designated backup for the Director of Nursing during periods of absence, including vacation, illness, leave, or other scheduled time away.
  • Provide oversight of clinical operations and nursing staff in the Director of Nursing's absence.
  • Assist with clinical decision-making, staffing coordination, regulatory compliance, incident management, and patient care concerns when acting on behalf of the Director of Nursing.
  • Ensure continuity of nursing services and effective communication between clinical staff, physicians, patients, and leadership during the Director of Nursing's absence.
  • Participate in leadership meetings and represent the nursing department as delegated by the Director of Nursing.
  • Escalate significant clinical, regulatory, or operational concerns to executive leadership as appropriate.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, lift, and assist patients as needed.
  • Ability to travel between clinic locations as required.
  • Ability to utilize computers, EMR systems, and educational technology.
